Let’s dig in and clear some things up. There is NOT a 100% purchase tax for non-eu citizens. The prime minister of Spain has proposed a possible tax for non-EU real estate buyers but it is NOT law and therefore is not being enforced.
With all of that said, it is possible it could be put into law but this is a long process because as we all know the government (all governments) are not very good at implementing anything. There are many levels of government that would need to approve such a dramatic change.
The good news: Currently it is business as usual. Even if at some future date this becomes law, and you have bought or buy now you can avoid this tax because you would already be a property owner. (Your own slice of Spanish Paradise)
If you are an EU citizen, this will not affect you even if implemented.
The moral of the story:
If you want to own a property in Spain, there has never been a better time to buy!
